Join the Pink Side

Want to build your own R2-KT and join the team? That’s awesome! The purpose of the AmbassaDroids is to extend an opportunity to anyone who feels called to build and operate a replica of R2-KT for the service of the Star Wars community and their local community. There is a lot of good to be done and KT can’t be everywhere… but that’s where you come in!

Background: The story of KT is a special one. Built in 2005 for my late daughter, Katie, R2-KT watched over her during her final days. Since then, the droid has appeared in LEGO Star Wars, Clone Wars, comic books, Lucasfilm promotions, and has become a symbol of hope and healing for thousands. In 2007 Hasbro created a limited edition R2-KT action figure and in 2015 R2-KT became a part of Star Wars canon when she appeared in The Force Awakens. It is our hope that others seeking to build and operate a replica of R2-KT will do so with proper conviction.

The application process is simple:

  • Review the Team Guidelines below. Email us at r2kt@r2kt.com to confirm you are cool with the guidelines and we can get started helping you.
  • When your KT is ready for show time, send us photos from all angles. Fill out the Droid Data Sheet with all your droid’s specs – fans want to know how you did it!
  • We review applications quickly and assign each KT a member number (assigned sequentially). You can see which number we’re up to from our handy KT List: https://www.r2kt.com/kt-list/
  • Upon approval, your KT unit will receive her very own page on the www.r2kt.com website: https://www.r2kt.com/ambassadroids/
  • There are no fees for joining the AmbassaDroids. This is an all-volunteer group who does it for the love of it.

Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can be of any assistance. We can’t wait to see your KT dazzling the world!

Thank you and May the Force be with you!

R2-KT AmbassaDroid Mission Guidelines

* R2-KT AmbassaDroids should be full-size professional-level astromech droids with the same color markings as R2-KT. They may be stationary or mobile and may be in two-leg (standing) or three-leg (reclined) position. Please see our KT Color Guide for reference.

* R2-KT AmbassaDroids are free to appear at shows and conventions and other community activities for recreational purposes. They must follow the guidelines of the local event or property manager. The owner is solely responsible for following local laws, regulations, and customs. The owner is also solely responsible for any damages caused by the droid at events or to property or people if accidents occur.

* R2-KT AmbassaDroids must not be used to generate business or profit. They may be employed in charity fund-raising events and may be required to submit proof that the event was approved by the charity in question. AmbassaDroid owners may be asked to share copies of receipts showing the contributions made to the charity as a result of an event.

* R2-KT AmbassaDroid owners are highly encouraged to send updates on events to the R2-KT team at the email address r2kt@r2kt.com. These updates are important to share the accomplishments of each team and promote the overall program. Photos are welcome and shared, and we love some stories to go with the pictures. At the very least, tell us the name of the event to go along with the photos.

* R2-KT AmbassaDroids should be presented to the public as proxy units in support of R2-KT. They should not be presented as the actual, original R2-KT, nor claims made that the droid appeared in other Star Wars properties.

* R2-KT AmbassaDroids will be registered with R2-KT HQ. This may include a registration decal to be placed on the rear or interior of the droid that identifies the droid. This decal may include a droid number to help distinguish which droid it is in the AmbassaDroid system.

* Any merchandise, signage or other materials bearing the name or likeness of KT/your droid should be approved beforehand. Simply email us at r2kt@r2kt.com with a photo of each item, a description of the item, quantities to be made, and what charity will benefit from any proceeds. We report all KT items to Lucasfilm, who are super casual about our items but like to be informed. For transparency and to inform the public, we display approved items on the KT site here: https://www.r2kt.com/kt-partner-collectibles/

* The AmbassaDroids operate in a strong partnership with the Pink Force Foundation, an international coalition of Star Wars costumers from all the major clubs who add a dash of pink and work with KT units. They visit hospitals, raise awareness of pediatric illnesses, and partner with major activist organizations to promote charity. Pink Force is run by Andoni Serrano, who also operates KT4 in the AmbassaDroids. He has been amazing in building a positive outreach family in the Star Wars fan community. You can learn more about this powerhouse group at https://en.thepinkforce.org/

Color Reference

Here are some images to help with potential KT builders. The original KT was painted using Circus Pink by Krylon. But units since the original have been using a brighter Magenta color. Feel free to email us if you have any questions.
